The Odisha state government has directed the officials to move the National Medical Commission for the necessary permissions required to commence the admissions in three new medical colleges in the state from the next academic session onwards.
The institutions in the list include Jagannath Medical College and Hospital at Puri, Medical College and Hospital at Sundargarh, and Mahanadi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research at Talcher with an intake of 100 students each year. While conducting a review of the progress of the medical colleges, Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy also asked the officials to make sure to complete the furnishing of the buildings by December. According to officials, the institutions will also provide tertiary healthcare facilities.
While the Talcher college is supported by Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd on a trust ‘no profit no loss basis’ the medical college at Sundargarh is supported by NTPC.
